Two US service members were killed in Jordan on July 17 while helping defend against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM said the troops were killed in action during operations alongside partner forces. The command also said one additional US service member remains missing.

Four American service members were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan following the attack. CENTCOM said all four have since been discharged, while other personnel treated for minor injuries have returned to duty.

“Out of respect for the families, CENTCOM will withhold additional information, including the identities of the fallen warriors, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified,” the command said in a statement.

CENTCOM did not immediately release further details about the attack or the circumstances surrounding the missing service member.

The announcement came as CENTCOM continued its military operations against Iran. On Thursday, the command said it had carried out a major wave of strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure.

“At 9:40 p.m. ET, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) completed its latest major wave of strikes against Iran,” CENTCOM said.

The strikes involved US fighter jets, aerial drones, warships, and other assets, hitting dozens of Iranian targets, including coastal surveillance sites, air defense systems, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities. CENTCOM said it was the sixth consecutive night of US strikes against Iran.

“At the Commander in Chief’s direction, CENTCOM is further degrading Iranian military capabilities and holding Iran accountable for recent attacks on commercial shipping,” the command said.

On Friday night, CENTCOM announced that US forces had completed another round of strikes, marking the seventh consecutive night of operations.

“U.S. forces ended the seventh consecutive night of strikes against Iran on July 17 at 9:30 p.m. ET,” CENTCOM said.

The command said the latest strikes targeted surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage facilities, and maritime capabilities. The operations involved fighter aircraft, aerial drones, warships, and other military assets.

“CENTCOM continues to hold Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief’s direction while fully enforcing a naval blockade against Iranian ports,” the command said.

CENTCOM added that more than 50,000 US service members remain deployed across the Middle East and are “vigilant, lethal, and ready.”
