The “Bakunawa Killer” as been revealed as a brand new character for Virtua Fighter Crossroads. Based on the dialogue heard in the trailer, it’s implied that the Bakunawa Killer will have a heavy influence on the game’s story mode.
At one point, Pai Chan is able to land a decisive blow against the mysterious fighter. This causes the Bakunawa Killer to become unmasked, though the camera intentionally does not give a view of his face.
Evidently, Pai Chan recognizes the unmasked fighter. Upon seeing him, she questions how it’s even possible that the person standing in front of her is the Bakunawa Killer.
As such, many fans have come to speculate that the Bakunawa Killer is somehow connected to Lau Chan, the father of Pai Chan. His fighting style seems similar enough to that of Pai and Lau’s.
Characters like Cielo and Pai will be spending time in the story trying to uncover the mystery surround the Bakunawa Killer. We’ll likely get more details about his identity within the story.
Within Philippine mythology, the “Bakunawa” is said to be a serpent-like dragon of colossal proportions. Some fans are speculating that the Bakunawa Killer is based on an anime exclusive character known for being a disgraced student of Lau Chan’s who trained alongside Pai Chan.
Sega has confirmed that the Bakunawa Killer will also be playable within the game’s Versus mode, so he isn’t just some NPC boss character that players will have to deal with.
