“I’m going to stab both of you,” a migrant yelled.
Amid the migrant crisis the Spanish exclave of Ceuta is facing, journalist Nick Shirley traveled to the city, where he was chased through the streets by a migrant wielding a knife. An estimated 60,000 migrants surged into Ceuta from Morocco last week, the majority of which being young men.
While walking through the streets of the city, located across the Strait of Gibraltar on the African continent, men started shouting at Shirley. “Come, cut the camera,” they shouted. “F*ck, come here.” A glass bottle grabbed from the trash was thrown at Shirley, as well as rocks.
A man began chasing Shirley and the man accompanying him, Mansilla, yelling, “I’m going to stab both of you,” before pulling out a knife.
Speaking with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham following the incident, Shirley said, “we saw a guy reach for his knife and he said he was going to stab both of us. So we obviously ran as far as we could.” He said the group of migrants had been near their car, and the police had to drop Shirley off at the vehicle in a police car “so we didn’t get stabbed or the guy didn’t come after us again.”
He said the guy who threatened to stab them was part of a “group of people that were still hanging around. Some of the Moroccans that haven’t gone back yet. There’s still thousands of people on this—it’s basically like a little island because it’s just this part of Spain that’s just all by itself on the African continent.”
He noted that many of the migrants were in their 20s, and said “they’re all coming here, like, literally in the truckloads, like truckloads of men just got dropped off at the border. The Moroccan government let them through, and then the Spain government literally opened up the gate for them.”
He said despite reports that many of those who came over in the surge have been returned to Morocco, “there are thousands of people up in the mountains. Like everywhere you look when you’re driving around the town, you’d look up in the hill, and there’d be somebody crawling out of the mountain. Like, who knows how many people are still there?”
He said that migrants said their goal is to make it to the mainland of Europe, and then travel onward to places such as Paris, Germany, and London. “They want to go anywhere inside of Europe,” Shirley said.
