Besides visual changes, Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 also introduces a native App lock feature to Pixel devices.

When you long-press an application for the Actions menu, “App lock” appears at the bottom to join App info, Pause app, Widgets, Remove, and Bubble. This will require Fingerprint Unlock or PIN before an application can be opened, with the system authentication sheet appearing upon tap.

Additionally, Google explains how:

  • Notification content will be hidden
  • Widgets and shortcuts will be removed
  • AI agents and services you’ve allowed to access [app] will still be able to access its data

You can go to Settings > Security & privacy > App lock to see everything you’ve enabled and quickly add or disable.

Android 17 QPR2 will be available this December.
