Most Americans know MacArthur Park from that time Richard Harris (Camelot) decided to sing a mostly incomprehensible song with lines about cake with “green frosting” as a metaphor for lost love in which he howls “And I’ll never have that recipe again! Oh No!”
(Apologies to anyone who likes that song.)
LA people know MacArthur Park as another hellhole filled with third worlders and drug addicts (not to mention third world drug addicts) that you don’t want to set foot into unless you want to lose a lot more than just your recipe.
This story isn’t about cake, it’s about the inability of liberals to learn anything. Sure they say that a conservative is a liberal who got mugged, but what if the liberals learn nothing from their muggings?
A woman known for feeding the homeless each week in MacArthur Park was savagely attacked with a metal pipe while serving meals, leaving her with a shattered jaw and six teeth knocked out, according to a fundraiser created to help cover her mounting medical bills.
Woods was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery the following day. Doctors said both her upper and lower jaw had been broken in the assault, the GoFundMe page states. It also says that Wood’s jaw has been wired shut and she will require dental implants to replace the six teeth she lost in the attack.
Friends say Woods has spent the last six years running the MacArthur Project, a volunteer-run mutual aid effort that provides more than 700 meals each week to homeless people living in the park.
“This woman, and this incident, are not representative of the culture of MacArthur Park and the community we serve there,” Schetina wrote. “She is not someone we’ve met in the past, and others in the park weren’t familiar with her. This was absolutely a bizarre one-off.”
Really? A bizarre one-off? Let’s look at all the way back in last week.
Twelve members and associates of 18th Street – Los Angeles’s largest street gang – were arrested today on criminal charges, including the murder of a drug trafficker who failed to pay the gang’s extortionate “taxes,” and further alleging that the gang controlled the city’s MacArthur Park as an open-air drug marketplace, using tents to blend in with the homeless population and avoid detection by law enforcement.

Fentanyl-fueled park turns LA’s oldest firehouse into drug overdose command post – New York Post
Los Angeles Fire Department’s Station 11 keeps a whopping 14 firefighters on duty daily, often bumped to 16 to staff an ambulance and a fast-response truck loaded with paramedics. The pace at which the firehouse must keep up with calls is almost incomprehensible.
Station 11 has been crushed under an extreme medical load: 8,568 ambulance runs compared to just 55 structure fires in the first eight months of 2025, according to records reviewed by The Post. These numbers make the firehouse among the busiest in the country.
MacArthur Park extinguishes “rubbish” fires — almost always started by the homeless — at a breakneck pace, forcing crews to douse one fire and race straight to the next, a member of the LAFD told The Post.
When The Post walked the park Friday and again on Monday young users, many appearing to be in their 20s, shot up with needles or smoked from glass pipes. Some pipes were fashioned to look like shotguns. Other addicts were passed out, or simply waiting on their next free meal.
And I’ll never have that recipe again.
