This has been an incredibly rough week for Sony’s reputation, and I seriously doubt that the PS Plus Essential lineup for July is going to reverse the Japanese giant’s fortunes.
Indeed, going by the comments on our announcement article, plenty of people think this might be one of the weakest months in a long time. But as always, I want you to have your own say.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the headliner, and what a headliner it is! The 2023 shooter is actually one of the series’ most poorly received instalments.

At release, it was blasted for having a crappy campaign and a shockingly shoddy multiplayer slate. Based on what I’ve read, the multiplayer side of things did improve over time — but man, we’re not off to a good start here.
Next up is For the King 2, which is a decent tabletop-inspired, turn-based RPG that can be played solo or with friends. If you can get a little group together it’s worth checking out.
And finally, there’s CrossCode, another RPG with a completely different approach to gameplay. This one’s about old school, top-down action set across a sci-fi narrative, and it was met with fairly strong reviews when it launched back in 2021.
So, what do you make of July’s PS Plus Essential selection? As always, vote in our polls, and then give a brutally honest opinion in the comments section below.
