An Air Canada flight made an emergency landing at Boston Logan International Airport on Wednesday after the captain suffered a medical episode and was ‘incapacitated.’
“Air Canada Flight 7664 was flying to Halifax, Canada with 61 customers on board,” CBS News reports.
“During the flight, the captain experienced a medical issue and was removed from the flight deck as per safety protocols,” the airline said in a statement.
“The first officer took control of the aircraft and diverted the flight to Boston, where it landed safely. Pilots are trained to fly aircraft and land safely without the assistance of a second pilot,” it added.

The plane — a de Havilland Dash 8-400 — successfully landed at around 2 p.m., with ambulances swarming the runway and bringing a stretcher to the cockpit.
The pilot was brought from the plane to the ambulance within minutes of touchdown, officials said.
Both the Massachusetts State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a crew member had experienced a medical emergency, forcing the flight to divert.
“Air Canada Flight 7664 landed safely at Boston Logan International Airport around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday, June 24, after the crew reported a pilot medical emergency,” the FAA said.
The plane departed Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey at 12:39 p.m., according to FlightAware.

Boston EMS said the pilot was brought to Mass General Hospital.
No additional information on the pilot’s condition has been released.
Once the captain was removed from the plane, the aircraft was towed to the gate and passengers were able to get off.
