Women struggling with fertility are increasingly turning to unregulated online platforms resembling “Tinder for sperm” to connect directly with donors and pursue parenthood, according to a report from The Sun.

These apps allow users to create detailed profiles showcasing personal information, preferences, and full names, much like conventional dating services.

However, the lack of oversight has raised serious safety concerns, exposing participants to potential health risks and exploitation in what has been described as a digital black market for sperm.

Fertility experts emphasize that regulated services carefully screen donors for health issues to protect future children. In contrast, these informal arrangements often leave women in the dark about hereditary conditions, infections, or the true quality of the sperm they receive.

Reports detail harrowing experiences, including women receiving dead or infected samples—sometimes packaged in makeshift containers like tomato passata boxes.

Others have faced coercion, with some donors insisting on conception through sex rather than artificial insemination. One woman recounted a terrifying incident in which a donor forced his way into her home and raped her.

In another case shared with The Sun, a donor accepted payment but then backed out, demanding additional money after claiming he could not proceed.

“He’s just come down thinking he’s going to open the door and have his way with me,” the woman said. “There’s a lot of desperate men out there, to be honest, just thinking, ‘Oh, the woman’s desperate for a baby, I’ll be able to swing her around.’”

US donor Daniel Bayen, who has traveled internationally to provide sperm, acknowledged the risks while defending the practice for those who choose carefully. “The spectrum of open donors is just like the spectrum of men in the dating market,” he told The Sun. “There’s great men… and then there’s terrible men, abusive men.”
