June 11 (UPI) — A California city celebrated Marilyn Monroe‘s 100th birthday by gathering 1,037 people dressed as the Hollywood star to break a Guinness World Record.
The Monroe impersonators donned the star’s iconic dress from the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch in Downtown Palm Springs on May 30 to break the record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Marilyn Monroe.
The previous record of 254 Marilyns was set by the Marilyn Jetty Swim Team in Australia in 2020.
The Mayilyn 100 event served as a fundraiser for Palm Springs Pride and helped to keep the city’s Pride Festival free for all attendees.
“Residents and visitors shared in an unforgettable, historic day for Palm Springs,” Ron deHarte, president of Palm Springs Pride, told Guinness World Records. “Marilyn Monroe was far more than Hollywood glamour; she was a courageous ally who stood for authenticity and marginalized communities when it mattered most.”
