Hamawy defended al-Qaeda terrorist the “Blind Sheikh” during his 1995 trial for plotting terror attacks in New York City.
Socialist pro-Palestinian Democrat Adam Hamawy, who has ties to an al-Qaeda terrorist known as the “Blind Sheikh, has won the Democrat primary for New Jersey’s 12th congressional district. The district is a Democrat stronghold, giving him a good chance of winning the general election and heading to Washington, DC.
Hamawy, 56, is an Egyptian-born physician and former Army trauma surgeon. He was backed by socialist streamer Hasan Piker and Senator Bernie Sanders in the race. Hamawy is tied to Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, otherwise known as the “Blind Sheikh” whose followers carried out the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
According to the Jewish Insider, Hamawy’s past relationship with Abdel-Rahman stemmed from a 1991 road trip that they took together to Detroit. Hamway also acted as Abdel-Rahman’s translator in a press conference where he denied any role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and Hamawy spoke in defense of the sheikh during his 1995 trial where Abdel-Rahman was convicted of plotting to carry out terror attacks in New York City.
Hamawy and the other Democrats that were running in the primary are running to succeed retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman. He was one of 13 candidates who were running to replace her in the deep blue district. Hamawy, in addition to the backing of Piker and Sanders, has gotten the backing of anti-Israel organizations such as American Priorities, which has been funded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign.
Hamawy has also been endorsed by the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The leader of CAIR, Nihad Awad, has said that he was “happy to see” the October 7 terror attacks.
