May 8 (UPI) — A Colorado police officer came to the rescue of a skunk with a cup stuck over its head — and managed to avoid being sprayed.

The Parker Police Department shared body camera footage to social media showing the rescue that occurred after 3 a.m. on April 27.

“Not exactly the kind of early morning encounter you are hoping for, for obvious reasons,” the post said. “After a few careful attempts with a catchpole, the officer made a bold call, rolled the dice and removed the cup by hand. One quick move later, freedom.”

Police said the skunk “waddled off” uninjured, “and thankfully without registering a stinky complaint.”

The post said the incident should serve as a reminder to residents of the danger that litter can pose to wildlife.

“Please do your part to keep Parker clean. Because, as this officer can confirm, littering really does stink,” officials wrote.
