Editor’s note: University campuses are notorious for promoting ‘safe spaces’ where dissenting opinions are labeled as ‘violence.’ Yet within the cushioned walls of the Ivory Tower, professors gleefully celebrate aggression and bloodshed that furthers their leftist narratives including the ‘liberation’ of Gaza, the defeat of capitalism, the abolition of the police, and the ‘decolonization’ of America. This promotion of savagery occurs at a time when our nation is experiencing a surge in political violence from the left, including the assassination of Charlie Kirk and three heinous attempts to assassinate President Donald Trump.
The following series, “Academic Assault: The Far-Left Professors Promoting Political Violence,” will expose both the barbarism and hypocrisy of these radical faculty, these academic assailants, who claim to promote safety and inclusion while encouraging violence as a political tool to spur revolution.

Thomas Alter, Texas State University
While many recent promoters of socialism have attempted to make the failed doctrine more palatable to the masses—NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his comments about the “warmth of collectivism” come to mind—scholars of history know that this kindler, gentler version of socialism masks a bloodthirsty appetite for revolution. Texas State University History Professor Thomas Alter made the mistake of dropping the disguise.
Speaking over Zoom to participants in the Revolutionary Socialism Conference last September, Alter made the case for violent revolution against not only capitalism but the United States Government which he labeled “the most bloodthirsty, profit-driven mad organization in the history of the world.”
In video from the Revolutionary Socialism Conference, which is so over-the-top it could be mistaken for a caricature, Alter is referred to as “comrade” when recognized to give his remarks.
The professor begins by criticizing various elements in the radical left for their lack of organization. “While their actions are laudable, it should be asked, to what purpose do they serve?” he asks. “Without organization, how can anyone expect to overthrow the most bloodthirsty, profit-driven mad organization in the history of the world—that of the U.S. government.”
Alter continues: “A revolutionary party needs a revolutionary situation for the working class to win power. We are not in that situation now, though it may be coming soon, as the crisis of capitalism only continues to deepen and capitalists look to war and fascism to save their profit system. If we do not build a revolutionary party now, this is surely our future.”
“What we do now is incredibly important,” Alter states. “We must educate ourselves and others in Marxism and the history of class struggle. We are by no means just a reading club. Our tasks are laid out in the Communist Manifesto.”
In that infamous work, Marx and Engels do indeed state a list of conditions to achieve a communist revolution, including that it may only be attained by “the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.”
The Communist Manifesto further lays out “ten planks” to achieve revolution which even its authors label as “despotic.” These include the abolition of private land, a hefty progressive income tax, abolition of rights of inheritance, centralization of credit in the hands of the state, and the seizure of property from those who rebel against the regime.
Alter’s direct reference to the guidance of the Communist Manifesto indicates his agreement with these violent and draconian precepts.
“We must participate in the struggles of our class, whatever they may be, from joining union picket lines to defending trans people,” Alter exhorts his audience. “And then, as Communists, connect these numerous struggles of our class into a fight against the source of our oppression—Capitalism!”
“Reforms are not enough though,” Alter hastens to add. “If the working class is not in power, those reforms can be lost, as we have seen in recent times. We must build a revolutionary socialist party now so that when a revolutionary situation arises, the working class has the tools and organization it needs to take power.”
During the brief question-and-answer period that follows his diatribe, Alter also makes clear that he plans to exploit his position to extoll the virtues of communism to future educators. “That’s most of my students as well, a lot of them are education majors,” he notes.
After video from the conference went viral online, Texas State fired Professor Thomas Alter. The professor was briefly reinstated after a court mandated a due process hearing but then was again terminated after that hearing took place.
“Conduct that advocates for inciting violence is directly contrary to the values of Texas State University,” Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse said. “I cannot and will not tolerate such behavior.”
“Video recordings made public this week in which a Texas State University professor advocated for the overthrow of our government are inconsistent with our shared values and demonstrate egregious personal and professional misconduct,” Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall concurred.
While Alter appears to have reaped the consequences of his calls for the violent overthrow of the United States Government, one must question how Texas State University missed the prior warning signs. The professor had been an outspoken member of numerous far-left groups advocating violent revolution for many years, including Socialist Horizon, an organization which declares “Revolution is the Solution” on its website. Alter has amply demonstrated through his rhetoric and actions that he belongs on the list of Academic Assailants.
