Another leftist has tried to assassinate President Donald Trump. Cole Allen, who stormed the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner on Saturday evening and opened fire, is reportedly a “31-year-old teacher from Torrance, California. He is a known leftist who previously donated to the Kamala Harris campaign and multiple Pro-Palestine organizations.”
It’s always “Palestine.” Joining the jihad against Israel seems to be an entrance rite for leftists today, solid proof that you’re right, righteous, and ruthless against the enemy. Cole Allen certainly tried to be, and in the process, he has given us yet another indication that the American left today is not a conglomeration of Americans with a particular political point of view. It is a sinister authoritarian force that is outraged at the prospect of dissent, deeply afraid that its elaborate rigging of the American system is slowly being exposed and that its consequent hegemony could be ending, and determined to prevent that from happening by murdering the man most responsible for it, Donald J. Trump.
There was a certain bitter irony to the fact that a leftist tried for a third time (which is unprecedented in American history) to assassinate Trump just days after the cover was definitively blown on the oft-repeated Biden-era claim that “white supremacists” constituted the biggest terror threat that the nation faced.
This was not only complete falsehood that was designed to defame, demonize and destroy Trump and his followers, but it was also a completely fictional construct that the left maintained and financed via lavish donations from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which created the problem it was claiming to be solving and then collected donations from unsuspecting leftists all over the country in order to deal with that problem.
It has been extraordinarily effective. In February, when I testified before a House subcommittee about Sharia, Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin, Steve Cohen, and Mary Gay Scanlon repeatedly claimed that Sharia was no problem, and that the whole hearing was just a diversion from the real problem, “white Christian nationalist.” Wisconsin Rep. Glenn Grothman observed that in thirty years in public life he had met many Christians, but never even once encountered one of these “white Christian nationalists,” and there was a very good reason for that: they’re nothing compared to the genuine threat of violence from the left.
The real terror threat that the U.S. faces today comes from Islamic jihadis on one hand and deranged leftists (including men who think they’re women and women who think they’re men) on the other. It turns out now that all the blather we kept hearing during the Biden years about a “right-wing” threat was yet another example of the left accusing its enemy of what it was actually guilty of doing.
The American left today is a terrorist force that openly condones and encourages violence against patriots. Numerous mainstream leftist politicians have called for violence. One of the most egregious cases of this is Jay Jones, the new attorney general of Virginia. During his campaign for that office, Jones was revealed to have written that he wished a House Republican colleague would get “two bullets to the head,” and that the same colleague’s wife would watch their child die in her arms, for “only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.”
Instead of expressing horror, condemning Jones, and dropping him as a candidate, Virginia Democrats lined up to reaffirm their support for him, and he won a comfortable victory over his Republican rival. Abigail Spanberger, who ran successfully for the Virginia gubernatorial office at the same time, remained stubbornly mum as her Republican challenger, Winsome Earle-Sears, repeatedly asked her to repudiate Jones.
The message is clear: the Democrats not only do not reject violence against their opponents, but will support and elevate those who call for it. Even after three attempts on his life, President Trump remains in more danger than any president before him because Democrats have rejected a fundamental element of American political life: the assumption that the opposition, no matter how severe our disagreements, deserved respect as a fellow American who wanted what’s best for this country.
Leftists, like the totalitarian socialists that they are, have replaced that idea with the rock-solid conviction that Trump and his supporters are evil, and must be eradicated. And they will keep trying.
