DEVELOPING: At Least 15 People Injured After Driver Plows Into Louisiana Parade

Up to 20 people are injured after a driver plowed into a Lao New Year parade in New Iberia, Louisiana.

The unidentified driver is in custody.

The sheriff said based on a preliminary investigation, the driver, who was reportedly inebriated, did not intentionally plow people over.

Several people suffered serious injuries.

Acadian Ambulance said 11 patients were transported by ground and two by air.

Video posted to social media shows injured people being tended to.

Several people were injured when a car struck revelers at a parade celebrating the Lao New Year in Louisiana, officials said.

The car struck “multiple pedestrians” Saturday afternoon at the corner of Savannakhet and Melancon Road in New Iberia, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office told NBC News.

A Louisiana Lao New Year event celebrating the Buddhist new year was underway at the time.

“Several individuals sustained injuries, some of which are believed to be serious,” the sheriff’s office said.

The driver is in custody, the sheriff’s office said, without disclosing their name.

“Sharon and I are praying for all those affected, and are grateful for the first responders who have responded to the scene,” Governor Landry said.
