April 3 (UPI) — A Maryland man stopped to fill up his gas tank and ended up winning $100,000 from a scratch-off lottery ticket.

The New Carrolton man told Maryland Lottery officials he originally only stopped at the Shell gas station in Hyattsville for gas.

“While I was pumping the gas I thought, ‘why not grab a scratch-off game,'” he said. “So, I filled up, went inside, pointed at a game and asked the cashier to give me that one.”

The man selected a $10 Red 5’s Doubler game and immediately scratched it off, revealing the $100,000 prize.

“It said I was a $100,000 winner,” he said. “So, I went to the car to call my wife and tell her.”

The winner said he plans to use his money to pay bills and potentially buy his wife a new car.
