April 3 (UPI) — The San Diego Zoo Safari Park announced its four male cheetah cubs, born in January, now have names: Nyasi, Owadgi, Ohani and Nkala.

First-time mother Kelechi gave birth to the cubs on Jan. 24, becoming the first cheetah to give birth at the zoo since 2020.

Nyasi, which translates to “grass” or “plains,” was chosen via a vote on social media.

The other names were chosen by the zoo’s care team. Owadgi means “brother,” Ohani means “moon” and Nkala is a popular character from African folklore.

“The four brothers are growing up together under the watchful eye of their mother, Kelechi, behind the scenes at the Carnivore Conservation Center at the Safari Park,” the zoo said. “Guests may see Kelechi and her cubs on an Ultimate Safari.”
