March 31 (UPI) — A Pennsylvania man made an unplanned stop during a family road trip and won a $50,000 prize from the Maryland Lottery.

Gettysburg resident David Costella told Maryland Lottery officials he was driving home in early March with his daughter and granddaughter when they made a stop for food at Rutter’s on Taneytown Pike in Emmitsburg.

Costella bought a $5 Money Maker scratch-off ticket during the stop and continued his drive home.

He said it wasn’t until two weeks later that his wife found the unscratched ticket while cleaning up and reminded him to check it.

Costella said he initially wasn’t sure what he was seeing on the ticket, so he gave it to his daughter to scan and she confirmed it was a $50,000 winner.

The winner said some of his prize money will fund a family vacation next year.
