March 25 (UPI) — A Maryland woman celebrated her birthday by purchasing a Fast Play High Roller Jackpot lottery ticket that earned her a $50,000 prize.
The player, identified as Alicia, told Maryland Lottery officials a trip to the spa with her sister-in-law on her 40th birthday was canceled due to a power outage, so she stopped at the Quick Shop store on Greensboro Road in Greensboro to use the lottery vending machine.
She cashed in a $50 scratch-off ticket and used some of the money to buy two $10 High Roller Blackjack tickets.
She initially thought she had won $10,000 from one of the tickets, but scanning it revealed she had actually earned a $50,000 birthday gift.
The winner said her prize money will go toward paying bills and taking a vacation later this year.
