Rep Jasmine Crockett has lost her bid for US Senate in Tuesday night’s Texas primaries, with James Talarico winning the Democratic nomination in the race. As of Wednesday morning, Talarico received 53 percent of the vote to Crockett’s 46 percent, with 94 percent of the reported in, per NBC.

Crockett conceded on Wednesday morning, saying in a statement, “This morning I called James and congratulated him on becoming the Senate nominee. Texas is primed to turn blue and we must remain united because this is bigger than any one person. This is about the future of all 30 million Texans and getting America back on track. With the primary behind us, Democrats must rally around our nominees and win. I’m committed to doing my part and will continue working to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.”

As polls closed in the state, Crockett claimed that her opponents were cheating. “We encourage each and every one of you to remain resilient. We cannot allow this type of behavior to be rewarded, because so long as they know that they can win, even if it means cheating, then they will continue to do it.”

Talarico will now face off against the winner of the Republican primary runoff election between incumbent Senator John Cornyn and current Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. While campaigning, Talarico came under fire for fundraising off claims that the FCC banned his interview on Stephen Colbert’s show. Colbert had spread the rumor to his studio audience, and critics claimed this was made up because he didn’t want to give equal airtime to Crockett, as required by the FCC.

Talarico, a Texas State Representative, has come under fire for claiming that there are six biological sexes and saying that abortion is supported by the Bible.

In a 2021 Public Education Committee meeting where lawmakers were weighing a measure to protect women’s sports from male athletes, he claimed, “Modern science recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes. In fact, there are six.”

In the wake of a bill passing to protect women’s sports in the state, Talarico said, “Trans children are God’s children, made in God’s own image. There’s nothing wrong with them, nothing at all. They are perfect, they are beautiful, and they are sacred. Bullying children is immoral, it’s a sin, a special kind of sin.”

In a July 2025 appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Talarico claimed, “the idea that there is a set Christian orthodoxy on the issue of abortion is just not rooted in scripture.” He said there was biblical evidence to support being pro-abortion, citing Mary, the mother of Jesus.

“Before God comes over Mary and we have the incarnation, God asks for Mary’s consent, which is remarkable. I mean, go back and read this in Luke. I mean, the angel comes down and asks Mary if this is something she wants to do, and she says, ‘if it is God’s will, let it be done,'” he said. “So to me, that is an affirmation in one of our most central stories, that creation has to be done with consent. You cannot force someone to create. Creation is one of the most sacred acts that we engage in as human beings, but that has to be done with consent.
