Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Jorge Pederson.
The Austin Police Department announced on Monday night that a third victim has succumbed to his injuries in the wake of Sunday’s mass shooting.
Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Jorge Pederson. Sources told KVUE that Pederson was taken off life support earlier in the day. The other victims who died in the shooting have been identified as 19-year-old Texas Tech student Ryder Harrington and 21-year-old University of Texas student Savitha Shan.
Police responded to Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden at around 2 am on Sunday after Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old Senegalese immigrant-turned-US citizen, opened fire. Diagne was killed. The FBI has said that Diagne had a “potential nexus to terrorism,” and was seen wearing a sweatshirt with the phrase “property of Allah” on it.
A 2016 lawsuit alleged that Diagne and the company that owned a vehicle he was driving were “negligent, careless, reckless, grossly negligent in the ownership, operation, management, maintenance, repair, inspection and control” of the vehicle involved in the case. Diagne was accused of hitting Jennifer Antoine, leaving her disabled.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said in a press conference that the guns used in the shooting were legally purchased, and law enforcement said that Diagne had not been on the police department or the FBI’s radar.
