A 13-year-old student in Minnesota was arrested after bringing a large quantity of fentanyl pills onto a middle school campus, according to police.

The incident took place at Horizon Middle School in Moorhead and triggered an immediate response from school officials and law enforcement.

Authorities said the student was found in possession of approximately 1,500 blue fentanyl pills, an amount police described as extremely dangerous. Investigators noted that fentanyl pills often sell for about $25 each on the street, underscoring the severity of the situation and the potential risk to students.

The incident came to light when another student noticed the pills and reported them to a school staff member. The staff member promptly contacted the school resource officer, who then alerted local police.

Officials praised the reporting student for speaking up, emphasizing that the quick action may have prevented a far more serious outcome.

When officers arrived at the school, the student was safely taken into custody and the pills were seized. Police arrested the 13-year-old on suspicion of first-degree possession of a controlled substance. Due to the student’s age, authorities stated that no identifying information would be released publicly.

After the arrest, the student’s parents were notified, and the juvenile was transported to the West Central Juvenile Detention Center. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the case will be handled within the juvenile justice system.
