17,000 Homes Evacuated Due to Fire Risk as LA Mayor Bass Leads Race

Currently the best election ad of the Los Angeles mayoral race may simply be the sight of more wildfires, more evacuation orders, with 17,000 homes evacuated due to the Sandy Fire, while Mayor Karen Bass promises to continue ‘monitoring it’.

Worked out well last time.

But her main opposition from within, Nithya Raman, an awkward ‘progressive’ leftist ‘homeless advocate’ who called for outlawing backyard BBQs and Israel, isn’t really taking off. And the DSA appears to be pivoting to Bass which doesn’t leave Raman with much of a lane. Basically Raman is trying to be Kamala, but is worse at it than the real Kamala who was trying to be Obama and is terrible at it.

And on the Republican side there’s Spencer Pratt, who’s doing effective viral ads that appeal to Republicans, but there’s only so many of those in L.A.

Few people actually like Bass. Her lead means that she’s at between 25% to 30%. And her approval rating is really poor.

Bass has come under heavy criticism for her handling of the devastating Palisades fire. More than a year later, 56% of those polled said they had an unfavorable view of her, while 31% viewed her favorably.

These are horrendous numbers for a candidate. And yet I wouldn’t bet against her winning because between complacency, zombie voting for the same failed politicians and ballot harvesting, she’s hard to beat. Some years back, enough people felt San Francisco had hit bottom that they began voting in a more centrist fashion. LA voters had that option with Rick Caruso, who potentially won, but was buried by a whole lot of late ballot arrivals. (In Dem cities, you have to beat the margin of fraud.) And now? Most people hate Bass. But they may not be willing to cross political lines to get rid of her.
