Feb. 17 (UPI) β Emergency responders in New York came to the rescue of a mute swan that landed on a frozen pond and wound up with its backside stuck to the ice.
The City of Rye Police Department said on social media that officers and local firefighters responded Friday βto a call involving a clearly distressed mute swan whose rear had become frozen to a pond due to the cold conditions.β
The post included a video of a rescuer in cold water rescue gear venturing out onto the ice, carefully lifting the swan off the ice and carrying it back to shore.
The swan was taken to the Animal Nation rescue facility for veterinary treatment and rehabilitation.
The rescue came just a couple weeks after a similar incident in Norwalk, Conn. Firefighters responded to the Wall Street Bridge and were able to rescue a swan stranded on the ice covering the Norwalk River on Feb. 3.
