Feb. 12 (UPI) — Firefighters in California came to the rescue of a dog found stuck behind a drainage grate neat a San Bernardino County intersection.

San Bernardino County Fire said on social media that multiple crews responded to the intersection of Sterling Avenue and Lynwood Drive on a report of a dog in distress.

“Upon arrival, firefighters located the dog stranded behind a grate at the entrance to a storm drain, due to elevated water levels from recent rains,” the post said.

Firefighters enlisted the help of a San Bernardino County Public Works crew to gain access to the area behind the grate and the San Bernardino City Department of Animal Services provided equipment to safely extract the dog from its predicament.

The dog was turned over to animal services for veterinary care and sheltering.
