Feb. 23 (UPI) — The Oakland Zoo in California announced the birth of a red-tailed monkey — the first primate of his species to be born at the facility.
The zoo said on social media that parents Nonami and Marley recently welcomed the “healthy baby boy,” the first red-tailed monkey to be born at the Oakland Zoo.
“Nonami and her baby have joined the rest of the troop in their habitat, bonding with the troop, including his sisters, Ikea and Skittles, Nonami’s first babies, who were born at their previous zoo,” officials wrote.
The zoo said Nonami and the new baby are sometimes viewable in the monkey habitat, “but mom sometimes prefers to retreat to a cozy, warm indoor space with her baby.”
Officials said a name for the new arrival will be announced soon on the zoo’s social media channels.
