Watch: Escaped zebra stops traffic on Nevada road

Feb. 11 (UPI) — A couple traveling on a Nevada road captured video when they were forced to stop by an unusual traffic hazard: an escaped zebra.

Jennifer Oliver posted a video to Nextdoor when she and her husband, John, found the zebra wandering down the middle of Huffaker Lane in Reno on Sunday.

Washoe County Regional Animal Services said an officer was sent to the area, but was unable to locate the striped equine.

WCRAS spoke with the owner of the animal on Monday and learned the zebra, named Ziggy, had indeed escaped and was on the loose for about 10-15 minutes before being safely returned home.

Washoe County does not have any special regulations for zebra ownership — the animals are covered under the same rules as horses.
