Watch: Escaped cows block traffic on New York State Thruway

Feb. 24 (UPI) — It was udder chaos on the New York State Thruway when three cows escaped from a livestock trailer and wandered into Interstate 90 traffic.

New York State Police said the trailer was parked on the shoulder of the highway at Exit 56 in Blasdell, near Buffalo, due to a mechanical issue when three cows escaped and wandered into the highway on Monday.

The cows moved back and forth from the roadway to the median while attempting to elude police, their owners and bystanders who stopped to help. Traffic was slowed to a crawl in both directions during the chase.

Authorities said two of the cows were rounded up quickly, but the third managed to evade capture for a while longer before being secured by its owners.

The cows were safely removed from the scene, but the New York State Thruway Authority cautioned that traffic delays persisted as a result of the incident.
