Watch: Colorado woman captures video of rare ‘snownado’

Feb. 6 (UPI) — A woman in Colorado captured video when a “snownado,” also known as a snow devil, touched down in the Divide area.

Mandy Campbell shared video on social media showing the whirlwind swirling snow into the air.

“I was so mesmerized that I didn’t record it until the very end,” Campbell wrote.

The National Weather Service confirmed the snow devil touched down Tuesday night.

Sydney Jackson, chief meteorologist for KKTV 11, said it was a rare scene.

“We don’t see this all the time,” she said. “So think of like a dust devil that you may have seen before, but this with snow in Divide.”

She said the snow devil was “pretty quick moving, but pretty tall as well.”
