March 12 (UPI) — A Maryland man took some advice from a stranger at a convenience store and bought a scratch-off lottery ticket worth $100,000.

The Hyattsville man told Maryland Lottery officials he usually reaches for bingo-themed scratch-off tickets, but a fellow customer at the 7-Eleven on Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring recently suggested he try out the new $25 $1,000,000 Crossword game.

The man said he scratched the ticket off a few hours later and discovered had scored a $100,000 second-tier prize.

“He couldn’t believe it,” the winner’s wife, who accompanied him to claim his money, told lottery officials.

The prize money will go toward paying off the couple’s vehicles and saving for the future.
