Elon Musk fired back at California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press office after they mocked his relationship with his transgender identifying child, labeling the ideology an “evil woke mind virus” pushed on vulnerable youth.
The exchange highlights Newsom’s aggressive promotion of transgender policies, which Musk blames for his son’s struggles.
The spat erupted when Musk’s America PAC shared a clip of Newsom on The Ezra Klein Show, where the governor boasted about his pro-trans record, stating that he “wants to see” transgender children.
“I have a trans godson,” Newsom said, adding “There’s no governor that’s done more pro-trans legislation than I have. No one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBTQ community.”
Newsom’s press office responded to the PAC’s post with a disgusting low blow: “We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon.”

Musk shot back a reply on X, stating “I assume you’re referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children.”
Musk added, “I love Xavier very much and hope he recovers. My daughters are Azure, Exa (she goes by Y) and Arcadia, and they do indeed love me very much.”
The Tesla CEO has previously claimed he was “tricked” into approving gender-affirming procedures for Xavier during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying he effectively “lost” his son. Xavier, now going by Vivian Wilson, filed to change his name and gender in 2022, stating he no longer wished to be related to Musk.

In August 2024, Wilson publicly called Musk a “serial adulterer” who is “stupid” and “not a family man” on Threads, challenging his attempts to portray himself as a caring father.
The backlash was swift, with X users slamming Newsom’s team for dragging a child into political mudslinging. One called it “plain evil,” while others highlighted the hypocrisy of a governor pushing radical gender policies while his state grapples with homelessness, crime, and wildfires.

This isn’t the first time Newsom’s wokeness has drawn fire. As previously reported, the governor recently urged Democrats to tone down their “judgmental elitism” and appear more “culturally normal” at The New York Times DealBook Summit, amid whispers of his 2028 presidential ambitions. He stressed understanding voter concerns on borders and culture, even as he compared Fox News to Soviet propaganda and labeled Trump a “man-child.”
Yet Newsom’s actions tell a different story. His veto of a menopause care bill twice prompted actress Halle Berry to roast him at the same summit, declaring, “With the way he’s overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either!”
Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has also recently called out Newsom. In an October interview on the PBD Podcast, she mocked his online trolling as “feminine tendencies,” saying, “He bitches on the internet all the time. It’s like what are you doing, Gavin? You know, you have fires in the Palisades — what’s going on?”
Newsom’s push for “normalcy” rings hollow against his radical record. Voters fleeing California for red states signal rejection of such agendas, favoring leaders who protect kids from ideological overreach.
