Senator Dave McCormick was on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream to discuss “Operation Epic Fury.” He defended President Trump’s Constitutional authority to carry out the mission.
Senator McCormick pointed out that both Democrats and Republicans for the past 50 years have supported these kinds of missions.
“The President acted completely within his Constitutional authority. For 50 years, Democratic Presidents and Republican Presidents have been making this claim,” McCormick said.
“When President Obama took military action in Libya, the very same argument was made by President Obama and by the way, some of those same Democrats that are now saying President Trump is acting out of line were supportive of the Libya operation,” McCormick continued.
“This is completely within his Constitutional authority. He briefed the Congress as required by the ‘War Powers Resolution,’” McCormick said.
“What we need to focus on now is continuing to support these great young Americans that are carrying out this extraordinary mission,” McCormick continued.
“He says listen, we wouldn’t be here had President Trump not torn up the deal that had been worked out with Iran that was keeping them in check,” Bream said, reflecting on Senator Kaine’s comments.
Senator McCormick pointed out that the Iranian regime has killed numerous Americans. Iran also targets US forces that are within the region, too.
“It’s honestly, it’s almost laughable. This is all political theatre. This is, there is no regime in the world that has more blood on its hands than Iran. It’s killed thousands of Americans,” McCormick said.
“Through the previous operation, we took out and set back their nuclear program significantly, but they have thousands of ballistic missiles, ballistic missile launchers. They use those regularly against US forces in the region,” McCormick said.
“This is a regime that continues to perpetrate violence throughout the world against Americans. Again, no regime in the last 20 years has killed more Americans than Iran,” McCormick explained.
The Senator also explained that President Trump gave the Iranian regime many chances to change their ways before using military force.
“There was a moment where the President gave Iran many alternatives for off-ramps. A peaceful resolution to this,” McCormick said.
“Right now, part of what we are hearing from our sources in the administration is that Iran was continuing to work on its nuclear program, so this is absolutely justified and this is an imminent threat to Americans around the region and around the world,” McCormick explained.
