The Mazzarella Clan suffers a setback with Roberto’s arrest.

Roberto Mazzarella was on the list of Italy’s most dangerous fugitives, accused of being the head of the Camorra Mazzarella clan, which controls organized crime in the Napoli region.

Italian authorities were searching for him since January 2025, when he escaped a European arrest warrant for murder aggravated by mafia-related offenses that was issued by the Court of Naples.

His fugitive days ended yesterday in a luxury resort in Vietri sul Mare, in the Salerno area, where Carabinieri arrested him.

Euronews reported:

“Mazzarella, 48, was fourth on the Ministry of the Interior’s list of the most dangerous fugitives (source in Italian). With this capture, the list of Italy’s so-called superlatitantes is reduced to three names: Attilio Cubeddu, Giovanni Motisi and Renato Cinquegranella.

At the time of his arrest by the Carabinieri of the Nucleo Investigativo of Naples, Mazzarella was with his family in a villa on the Amalfi Coast, where he had provided false information to celebrate Easter with his loved ones, at the price of a thousand euros a day.”

“The fugitive did not resist during the operations, which found about 20 thousand euro in cash, three valuable watches, mobile phones and forged identity documents, as well as handwritten notes on which the clan’s accounts are being investigated.”

La Stampa reported (translated from the Italian):

“The arrest was carried out by the carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the provincial command of Naples coordinated by the Neapolitan DDA. The ‘Hunters of Calabria’ squadron, the bees of the Naples group as well as a patrol boat of the Salerno Port Authority also took part in the operation.

Mazzarella is accused of being the instigator of the murder of Antonio Maione, carried out in San Giovanni a Teduccio on December 15, 2000 for a transversal revenge against the Rinaldi clan with which the longest feud in the history of the Camorra is underway.

Antonio Maione was Ivan’s brother, linked to the Rinaldi and confessed author of the deadly ambush of Salvatore Mazzarella, a municipal employee with no criminal record and not affiliated with the family clan, Roberto’s father. In the reconstruction of the investigators, the powerful clan chose Antonio Maione as a target, who was also extraneous to Camorra contexts. There is in the prosecution’s hypothesis the most classic of transversal vendettas.”
