Police warn of serval on the loose in the Netherlands

March 23 (UPI) — Police in the Netherlands are warning residents to be on the lookout for an African serval spotted on the loose in the province of Gelderland.

West Betuwe police posted a photo to social media showing the serval spotted wandering loose in the town of Haaften.

The photo shows the African cat wearing a collar, leading police to believe it is an escaped pet.

Servals were outlawed as pets in the Netherlands in July 2024, but people who already owned the animals prior to the new regulations were allowed to keep them.

Police are asking residents to report any serval sightings and are attempting to locate the animal’s owner.
