Man rebuilding abandoned 80s supercar finally gets it running again after weeks and weeks of setbacks – supercarblondie.com

A long-forgotten 80s supercar known as the Nova has finally fired back to life thanks to one determined car restoration effort.

The dramatic moment came after weeks of frustrating setbacks that left the project stubbornly refusing to run.

The ambitious rebuild was documented by Hudson Auto Films, who chronicled every step of the process.

When the supercar’s engine finally roared into life, it marked a huge milestone for a project that once looked completely hopeless.

The YouTuber didn’t have a lot to work with

The project revolves around a Nova, a lightweight kit car inspired by classic racing machines of the 1960s but built during the 1980s.

When Hudson first found the car, it was essentially a shell.

The chassis had severe corrosion, and much of the mechanical hardware needed to be replaced completely.

Instead of simply repairing the original setup, the builder went in a far more ambitious direction.

The car now features a turbocharged Alfa Romeo race engine that had to be converted from older carburetion to modern fuel injection.

That transformation required installing sensors, wiring, software tuning, and an engine control unit capable of managing the new setup.

That’s where the headaches began.

For nearly three weeks, the engine stubbornly refused to start.

It cranked endlessly but never produced spark, leaving Hudson repeatedly checking wiring, coils, and electronics.

The problem turned out to be surprisingly simple but incredibly frustrating.

The testing mode inside the tuning software wasn’t actually triggering the ignition system, meaning the hardware was fine the entire time.

Once everything was reassembled and tested directly, the engine suddenly sputtered to life.

The 80s supercar finally ran smoothly under its own power

Even then, the work wasn’t over.

The engine struggled to stay running due to issues with fuel delivery, sensor calibration, and software settings.

At one point, the fuel pump wasn’t staying on after priming, starving the engine of fuel.

Another problem came from a coolant temperature sensor feeding incorrect data to the ECU, which caused the system to dump far too much fuel into the engine.

Each fix brought the Nova a little closer to life.

Eventually, after adjusting fuel tables, recalibrating sensors, and even discovering that the water pump belt had been forgotten entirely, the engine finally settled into a proper idle.

For the first time since the restoration began, the Alfa-powered Nova ran smoothly under its own power.

The victory wasn’t just about hearing the engine run.

After weeks of trial and error, the moment proved the entire Frankenstein-like build actually worked.

With the engine now alive, Hudson’s next steps involve refining the cooling system, improving the intake layout, and eventually adding the turbo hardware that will turn the tiny 80s supercar into a truly wild machine.
