The force said officers remained in the area carrying out enquiries

A large cordoned-off crime scene remains in place across the park and surrounding streets.

Supt Matt Cox described the stabbing as an “utterly tragic incident”.

“Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and loved ones,” he said.

“I would like to reassure the local community that the investigation is unfolding at pace and an increased police presence will remain in the area while we carry out enquiries.”

He appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to contact the police to help in the investigation.
