Look: Emu escapes Kentucky home when storm topples fence

March 17 (UPI) — Authorities in Kentucky said an emu named Mystery spent about a day on the loose when severe storms knocked down her shelter and fence.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office said the emu escaped from her owner’s property in the Salt River Road area of Eastview on Sunday when storms destroyed her shelter and knocked down the surrounding fence.

“Please do NOT try to approach or catch her. Emus will run if frightened, which makes it harder for her owner to safely get her home,” the sheriff’s office said on social media.

The post was updated Monday to say Mystery had been found safe and returned home. The details of the large, Australian bird’s capture were not immediately known.
