Footage showed students shouting “I love Trump!” and residents cheering.
Videos circulating on social media appear to show citizens in Iran cheering in the streets after US and Israeli strikes targeted the Iranian regime.
In clips that went viral online following Operation Epic Fury, which was carried out by the United States and Israel, some Iranians were seen dancing and celebrating as explosions near the office of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei went off. Footage showed Iranians in the country shouting, “I love Trump!”
One video from a school showed students cheering as the explosions went off in Iran. Another clip showed a woman celebrating after seeing strikes in central Tehran near Khamenei’s compound
When the strikes began, President Donald Trump called on Iranians to force regime change in the country.
“When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations,” Trump said on Saturday. “America is backing you with overwhelming strength. Now is the time to seize control of your destiny and unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this message, saying, “Our joint operation will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their fate into their own hands.”
The videos circulated as Iran implemented an internet blackout across the country. According to the internet monitoring organization Netblocks, the nation’s connectivity dropped to only 4 percent of normal levels, a move presumably aimed at limiting the dissemination of information from within the country.
