Detectives have launched a murder investigation after the death of a young woman in the Austhorpe area of Leeds

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a woman in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police said officers attended Kennerleigh Avenue, Austhorpe, at 05:55 GMT on Saturday after a young woman was found unconscious in the street.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Four people, two women, both aged 18, a 20-year-old man and a boy, 17, were later arrested on suspicion of murder.

Det Ch Supt Marc Bowes said: “This is an extremely complex investigation where a young woman has sadly lost her life.

“Despite carrying out extensive enquiries throughout the course of today we have not yet been able to confirm her identity.

“We hope by releasing these details that someone will recognise who she is and come forward.”

Police said the victim was about 5ft 2ins (1.57m) tall, of slim build with tanned skin.

The force believed the woman was in her mid to late teens, with green eyes and brown hair, with darker roots and blond ends. She also had fixed metal braces to her upper and lower teeth.

Bowes added: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the Kennerleigh Avenue area in the early hours of this morning, or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity.”
