Football recruiting: Three-star linebacker commits to CU Buffs

Colorado continues to add to its 2026 recruiting class.

On Tuesday, Colby Johnson, a three-star linebacker from Sammamish, Wash., announced his verbal commitment to the Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders.

Johnson, who stars at Eastlake (Wash.) High School, chose CU over Arizona, San Diego State and Washington. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Johnson also plays running back and has a personal best in the 100-meter dash at 10.87 seconds.

CU now has five players committed for 2026, with four of them on defense. Johnson joins a list that includes cornerbacks Preston Ashley (Brandon, Miss.) and Maurice Williams Jr. (New Orleans); edge Domata Peko Jr. (Ventura College); and tight end Gavin Mueller (South Elgin, Ill.).
