An illegal immigrant has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 5-year-old child in Long Island, New York. Carlos Aguilar Reynoso, 27, of Guatemala, is accused of forcibly penetrating the victim, leaving the young girl bloodied and injured, according to court documents.
Reynoso was charged on March 23 with predatory sex assault against a child, vaginal sexual contact with a child, sexual abuse, acting in a manner to injure a child, and resisting arrest. He is being prosecuted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Court documents allege that the attack occurred while Reynoso was babysitting the child. After returning home, the child’s mother discovered her daughter bleeding and took her to a hospital. The child needed surgery to repair internal injuries, and a rape kit test was performed, pinning Reynoso to the crime.
The New York Post reported that while officials were waiting for the DNA test results, Reynoso was set to be released because he could only be charged at the time with endangering a child, an offense for which prosecutors can not request bail under the state’s bail reform laws. As a result, “quick-thinking” detectives issued Reynoso a desk appearance ticket, which allowed US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to take him into custody upon his release on February 2, 2026, while prosecutors built a case against him.
“Carlos Aguilar Reynoso, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala, was charged for raping a five-year-old child in New York. While local law enforcement processed DNA evidence and built their case, they contacted ICE to arrest this pedophile so he would not be released into our communities to prey on more innocent children,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis in a press release. “On March 16, ICE transferred this monster to local law enforcement to face justice for his reprehensible crimes. This case shows why we need local law enforcement cooperation. When we work together, our communities are safer.”
DHS said Reynoso unlawfully entered the United States at an unknown date and time. An immigration judge ordered his final removal on March 16. If convicted, Reynoso faces up to 25 years in prison. A judge has denied his bail until further court proceedings.
