Colorado firefighters rescue dog stranded in storm drain

Feb. 3 (UPI) — Firefighters in Colorado braved frigid temperatures to venture down into a storm drain and rescue a stranded dog.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department said on social media that crews responded to a call for assistance from Animal Law Enforcement when the dog was found to be stranded in a storm drain “on a freezing night.”

“Truck 8 responded and used their rescue skills to go down into the drain and retrieve the pup,” the post said. “To keep him warm during the rescue, we wrapped him up in a wildland shirt — because nobody gets left out in the cold on our watch.”

The dog was taken in by Animal Law Enforcement to keep warm overnight.

An update to the post revealed the dog, named Diesel, had been safely reunited with his owner.
