Gov. Newsom Tries to Dodge Responsibility for Freeing Child Rapist

Yesterday. I wrote about the Democrat pro-crime invention of releasing monsters sentenced to over a century in prison by reclassifying 50-year-old criminals as ‘elders’ who are suddenly eligible for parole.

The worst example of it was David Allen Funston.

Funston became notorious for luring children as young as four years old in Sacramento into his car with candy and dolls then raping them. A little girl had a knife held to her throat while he raped her so badly she bled. One 5-year-old girl was raped, beaten and left by the side of the road. He raped a little boy and kidnapped two sisters, 4 and 5, before he was finally stopped.

Funston was known as “the monster parents fear the most” and was sentenced to three life terms in prison in 1999. But in 2020, even as he was having surfers arrested and small business owners shut down, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 3234 into law which took the state’s already generous ‘elder parole law’ and redefined ‘elder’ as being any criminal over the age of fifty.

Now it’s official, Funston is getting paroled.

Gov. Gavin Newsom had referred his parole grant for review by the full board last month, and last Wednesday, the decision to grant Funston parole was affirmed.

According to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation records, Funston was still being housed at the state prison in Chino as of Monday.

It was not immediately clear the exact date he would be released from prison.

The first duty of a penal system is to protect children from monsters. Instead, Newsom and California Democrats seem determined to expose children to them while pretending to care about Epstein.

Will this wake people up?

Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper on Monday criticized the parole of David Allen Funston, a 64-year-old man convicted of kidnapping and molesting children in 1995 and 1996, after state records show he was granted parole under California’s elderly parole program.

Cooper said Funston preyed on children in the Sacramento area in 1995 and 1996 and targeted eight victims — seven girls and one boy — between the ages of 3 and 7.

“He lured them with candy, Barbie dolls, toys, and abused these kids horrifically, horrifically,” Cooper said.

“What in the hell is going on in California? What is happening in our state? This cannot happen. It’s not OK,” he said.

“You don’t get a second chance with children at all. And I’m pissed. It is not OK. It is not OK,” Cooper added.

Undersheriff Mike Ziegler said Funston had served less than a third of the time he was given.

“This monster. He was sentenced to almost or a little over 90 years. He’s done less than a third of that, and he’s going to be on the streets,” Ziegler said.

“A third of our current child abuse suspects will be eligible for parole as soon as they turn 50… that’s the problem with the law,” he added.

Amelia, who identified herself as one of Funston’s victims, also spoke at the press conference.

“This man has took innocence from myself and others,” she said. “He, he is a criminal child molester, dangerous and deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars,” she said.

Now that the outrage is building, Gov. Newsom is trying to cover himself.

A spokesperson for Gov. Gavin Newsom told FOX40 and Inside California Politics anchor Nikki Laurenzo that the governor “doesn’t agree with the outcome of the hearing.

“BPH is an independent agency and made this decision,” Newsom’s office said. “The Governor asked for BPH to re-review its decision. The Governor doesn’t agree with the outcome.”

That’s nonsense. Newsom signed the bill into law. He appointed the parole board members who freed this monster. There’s nothing independent about this farce. Just plausible deniability.

Now he’s playing a game in which he asks his parole board to re-review their decision. Except the ultimate decision comes down to Newsom. What he wants from his political appointees, he gets.

A system that releases serial child molesters is an enemy of the people.

If Funston harms a single child, it will be the fault of Newsom and a party that supports criminals and hates kids.
