Baby born in the back of Waymo driverless taxi in San Francisco

Dec. 11 (UPI) — Autonomous taxi company Waymo confirmed a woman riding to the hospital in a driverless taxi ended up giving birth inside the vehicle.

The company said the woman was on her way to University of California San Francisco when she gave birth in the back seat of the Waymo car.

The company’s Rider Support Team detected the unusual activity inside the vehicle and called 911.

The baby had been born by the time the taxi arrived at the hospital.

“We’re proud to be a trusted ride for moments big and small, serving riders from just seconds old to many years young,” a Waymo representative told KRON-TV. “We wish the new family all the best, and we look forward to safely getting them where they’re going through many of life’s events.”

The company said in a statement to KTVU-TV that the taxi in question was “immediately removed from service for cleaning.”
