The Asus NUC 16 for Windows 365 will launch later this year.

Dell and Asus have announced new mini PCs intended for use with Windows 365. These systems will not power themselves, but will simply allow users to operate Windows running in the cloud.

Windows 365, as the name suggests, is Microsoft’s cloud PC offering that is, of course, subscription-based. Essentially, the platform allows users to use virtual Windows PCs hosted in remote data centers, thereby reducing their own hardware requirements.

It appears that Asus and Dell have now joined in on the fun, announcing their own mini PC lineups to cater to businesses that prefer the aforementioned cloud-based Windows 365 service over local systems.

Remote eyes for cloud-based Windows

Dell’s offering is named the Dell Pro Desktop for Windows 365, and has been revealed to be powered by Intel N-series processors. Now, the Alder Lake-N family has a lot of members, ranging from the dual-core N50 to the relatively powerful octa-core Core 3-N305. It shouldn’t matter, however, since the only purpose the desktop will serve is to basically connect to Microsoft’s servers..

The Asus NUC 16 for Windows 365, on the other hand, appears to be far more compact, resembling a typical mini PC, coming in at just 0.7 liters. In fact, as pointed out by Liliputing, it appears to sport the same design as the Panther Laker-powered NUC 16 Pro mini PC. That said, Asus does not mention the exact processor powering the system, but we can easily expect it to be lower-tier one.

Unlike Dell, Asus did mention a few more details – the system will pack DDR5 memory, HDMI, USB-A, USB-C, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and 2.5G Ethernet. Exact details regarding the USB and HDMI port were not offered, however.

That said, typical consumers who would rather have a local system should check out something like the GMKtec M6 Ultra, currently enjoying a 33% discount on Amazon.
