A violent gang leader who ordered two Staten Island murders is going away for the rest of his life.

John Pena, also known as “Tragedy,” “Don Tragg,” “Last Don,” and “Money Baggz,” was sentenced in federal court in Brooklyn after prosecutors tied him to racketeering, narcotics trafficking, and two gang-related killings.

Pena led the Gorilla Stone Mafia, a faction of the Bloods street gang, according to federal prosecutors.

The case is exactly the kind of hard-edged law-and-order work President Trump’s DOJ has been promising: violent gang leaders off the street, victims taken seriously, and no soft landing for killers.

Today’s story behind the numbers: This #FBI and the lifetime lockup of the leader of a violent gang that trafficked in drugs and murder.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the sentence and the facts behind it this way:

Earlier today, in federal court in Brooklyn, John Pena, also known as “Tragedy,” “Don Tragg,” “Last Don,” and “Money Baggz,” the leader of the Gorilla Stone Mafia (GSM) and a member of the Bloods street gang, was sentenced by United States District Judge Ann M. Donnelly to life imprisonment for racketeering conspiracy, including conspiracy to distribute narcotics and the murders of Mark Bajrektarevic and Christopher Delvalle, two gang-related shootings on Staten Island.

“With today’s sentence, John Pena will spend the rest of his life in prison for his leadership role in the Gorilla Stone Mafia’s reign of terror that included drug trafficking and the cold-blooded murders of two men,” stated United States Attorney Nocella.

As set forth in court filings, Pena and other members of GSM sold heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, and fentanyl in the New York City area and elsewhere.

On November 14, 2021, Pena ordered and participated in the murder of Mark Bajrektarevic, who was shot in the face outside his home in Staten Island.

Approximately two months later, on January 15, 2022, Pena ordered and participated in the murder of Christopher Delvalle, who was shot several times outside a deli in Staten Island.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

The operation stretched beyond neighborhood intimidation.

Federal prosecutors said Gorilla Stone Mafia members were moving heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, and fentanyl across the New York City area and beyond.

DOJ also tied the case to Operation Take Back America, the Trump-era push against violent crime, transnational gangs, cartels, and illegal immigration-driven crime networks.

There is no undoing what happened to Mark Bajrektarevic and Christopher Delvalle.

But there is justice in making sure the man who ordered their murders never walks free again.
