June 8 (UPI) — A Washington police department announced two baby birds hatched in a nest built in an unusual location: the storage compartment of a training motorcycle.
The Puyallup Police Department, which recently moved into a new headquarters, announced on May 30 that personnel had discovered a mother bird had built a nest and laid four eggs in the storage compartment of a not-in-service motorcycle used for traffic officer training.
The department posted an update Sunday revealing the mother, nicknamed Traffic Birdie, had successfully hatched two of the eggs.
“Mama bird has been doing an incredible job taking care of her little ones, keeping them warm, fed and safe inside their very unique nest at our new Public Safety facility,” the post said. “Our officers and staff have been carefully watching from a respectful distance as this feathered family continues to grow.”
Police said further updates will be made available as the baby birds grow and are hopefully joined by two more “officers-in-training.”
